FHCA Scholarship 2026
Call for applicants: Attention 2026 High School grads who are attending college or university this fall. The deadline is September 30 to apply for the Fitzroy Harbour Community Association Scholarship. Up to $1000 is available.
Send a cover letter with information about why you would be a worthy recipient including your involvement in the community, where you are attending post-secondary school, as well as a copy of your two most recent report cards. Please email the information to scholarship@fitzroyharbour.com. A committee of local community members will review all submissions and select the recipients.
FHCA Annual General Meeting
The Fitzroy Harbour Community Association annual meeting was held on May 11, 2026. Thank you to all who attended. The President’s Report and Treasurer’s Report were presented, and the 2025 Financials provided.

FHCA Logo Contest
Voting has concluded at the Winter Carnival for the contest to select our new logo and the people have spoken! Thanks to all who entered the contest.
Leigh Ann Kyte
The Fitzroy Harbour Community Association expresses its deepest condolences to the family and many friends of Leigh Ann Kyte (nee Sawyer) who died this week.
Leigh Ann was a frequent volunteer for the FHCA. She was a key organizer of Harbour Days back in the 1990s. For many years she was the coordinator for Fitzroy Harbour Minor Softball and coached several teams. She was a past member of the FHCA executive and served a term as President. Leigh Ann did not miss many social events at the Community Centre.
Baird Park project update
A message from the City of OttawaDuring soil testing in late 2025, the City of Ottawa found that some deeper soil in Baird Park contains higher levels of metals and other materials. These results suggest that older fill may have been used in parts of the park many years ago. Because of this, the City needs to complete more detailed environmental studies across the entire park in 2026.
The park remains safe to use. Ottawa Public Health has confirmed that everyday park activities do not bring people into contact with the deeper soil where these materials were found. The sand under the play structure is clean, and the swing set area already has a protective layer that covers the soil.
How This Affects the Project
· Environmental assessments will take place through 2026.
· Design and construction for the new play structure are expected to begin in 2027.
Why More Testing Is Needed
These environmental studies will help the City understand how much of the park contains older fill and whether any parts need risk management or clean‑up. This careful work is important to make sure the park stays safe now and during future construction.
What the City Is Doing
The City will:
· Investigate soil conditions across the whole park
· Plan next steps, if any areas need special treatment
· Keep the community informed as new information becomes available
We understand that delays are frustrating, especially for families looking forward to new play equipment. Our goal is to complete this work properly and safely so that the renewed play structure can serve the community for many years.}

Crafting in the Harbour – starts January 14
A new program!
There’s a new adult drop-in program available in Fitzroy Harbour – Crafting in the Harbour.
Join us Wednesday mornings starting January 14 at the Community Centre from 10 am to noon in the downstairs meeting room.

*Re-purpose or exchange crafting supplies
*Explore new ideas
*Have fun socializing with like-minded individuals.
Feel free to bring projects you are working on, ask questions, try new crafts – hopefully we can shape the program to fit community interest.
