Minor Softball Registration is open

It is registration time for Fitzroy Minor Softball! To get your kid signed up, please use the Google form link below (one per player). You will receive an invoice to follow.

Fees are:
Learn to Play (2016-2018) $40
U9 Coach Pitch (2014-15) $70
U11 (2012-13) $70
U13 (2010-11) $70
U15 (2008-09) $70
U17 (2006-07) $90
U20 (2003-05) $90
+ FHCA family membership $20

Fitzroy softball participates as part of the West Carleton Softball Association. Nights for each age group are still to be determined. The season runs from May 1 to June 24. Please register by April 11 so we can get the season planned!

Summer Employment at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre

Attention Students: Are you interested in working at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre this spring / summer? The FHCA offers summer employment opportunities to local youth for outside grounds work and canteen duties.

Please send a letter indicating your interest, which job you are applying for, and a brief summary of your experience by email to secretary@fitzroyharbour.com. Deadline to apply is April 16, 2023.

Recommended minimum ages are 13 for canteen duty and 14 for outside grounds work.

Fitzroy Harbour Community Association – Annual Meeting 2023

Attention all Fitzroy Harbour Community Association members: our annual meeting will be held Tuesday May 9, 2023 starting at 7 p.m. at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre.

Find out more about your community association and get involved. Learn about our successes over the past year, help plan the next year going forward and elect the new FHCA executive.

This year the FHCA will be adopting new Operating By-laws as per the Ontario Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

If you don’t already have one, buy your membership ($15 single, $20 family, donation for seniors) using the link to the right of this page to be eligible to vote. Memberships also available at the door.

Our financial statements and proposed new by-laws will be available for review on this website 30 days before this meeting.

Euchre at the Hall

Four hand euchre in support of St. Michael’s Church in Fitzroy Harbour.
Dates:  April 15 and May 6
To be held at Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre
Bring a partner, all are welcome. Registration and lunch at noon. Euchre starts at 1 p.m. sharp. $800 in prizes, admission of $20 per person.

Donation to Fitzroy Minor Softball

Thanks to the West Carleton Fastball committee, the group that put on the U23 Men’s Softball Canada Championship in Carp in August 2022, for their donation to support Fitzroy Minor Softball. Watch for details on sign up for the 2023 season.

Fitzroy Harbour Winter Carnival

Thanks to all who participated at the Winter Carnival – what a fantastic success! Special thanks to all the many volunteers who made it possible. Don’t forget to reserve July 6-8 on your calendar for our next big event – Harbour Days.

Memberships for 2023

The past few years have been a challenge for the FHCA but we are continued to be committed to helping make Fitzroy Harbour a great place to live and maintaining the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre.
Your membership helps support the maintenance of the Community Centre building and grounds. It helps us put on events such as Harbour Days, Winter Carnival, Halloween Party, Dart Night, and the Children’s Christmas Party, all of which have many activities offered free of charge.Membership benefits include the ability to register your kids in our sport programs (outdoor hockey and softball), subscription to our email newsletter and discounts on hall rentals, as well as the good feeling you get for supporting your community!If you are able to support the FHCA by purchasing an annual membership, we would appreciate it. Hall improvement project

The FHCA is pleased to announce that we have upgraded our refrigeration system in the bar with a new quieter, more dependable, more efficient set up. We are grateful to the City of Ottawa’s Rural Community Building Grant Program for providing funds to make this improvement possible.

Fitzroy Harbour Outdoor Rink

Once again this winter, the FHCA will be providing opportunities for skaters to use our outdoor rink. The rink schedule is posted here. We plan on going back to having a “supervised” rink Monday to Friday during the evening which will allow for the basement change area to be opened up and will operate a canteen for treats.

If you are a community members aged 16 and older to volunteer. (Eligible volunteer hours) and want to volunteer let us know. We will have satellite TV and WiFi for our volunteers. If you are interested in helping out, please email thepeeper@fitzroyharbour.com.

Fitzroy Harbour Dart League is back this fall / winter

Fitzroy Harbour Dart League plays most Friday evenings in the fall and winter at the FHCC. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

Scholarship Winner 2022

Congratulations to the FHCA 2022 Scholarship recipient, Justin Ovington. Justin, former FHCA grounds crew worker, is attending Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. He is taking a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Tennis, Pickleball in Fitzroy

Attention racquet sports lovers.
The tennis net is up on the outdoor rink at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Association as of June 23, 2022. Use of the court is on a first come first served basis. While there is no fee to play tennis, we would appreciate you purchasing a membership to the FHCA, available on this page. EW! Also coming soon to Fitzroy will be pickleball. We are excited to have received conditional approval of a grant to set up pickleball courts, also on the outdoor rink. More info to come.

New bench at the FHCC in honour of Connor Engleberts

In June 2019, Connor Engleberts tragically died in a workplace accident. Connor was a wonderful person who died far too young. In Connor’s memory, a new bench has been installed by his family near the first base bench on “A” Diamond at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre. Connor was a participant in many Harbour Ball games over the years, and now we will have a permanent memorial of a great guy onsite at the FHCC.Connorsbench

Ottawa Public Library – new hours in Fitzroy

Starting July 4, the Fitzroy Harbour branch will be open Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FHCA Annual Meeting 2022

The FHCA annual meeting was held Thursday May 5, 2022. Thanks to all who attended. The board this upcoming year will consist of Karen Taylor, Mark D’Arcy, Sean Ovington, Colin Ovington, Adam Brown, Wendy Mayhew, Kelly Roper and Fred Gillard. At the meeting, a motion was passed for the FHCA to update its by-laws to comply with new provincial legislation for not-for-profit corporations.
