The peeper history

The History of the Fitzroy Peeper

The Peeper was first published in April 1999. Dianne Lockhart, existing publisher of the town’s news flyer, and Sonya Cathcart decided to expand the flyer into a small newspaper. The paper began with 8 pages. Numerous people come forward to offer assistance.

The Peeper expanded to 12 pages in December 1999. At that time, the Peeper sustained itself through small advertising blocks.

In April 2000, Rheal Doucette helped launch www.fitzroyharbour.com, the website of the Peeper and the FHCA. The newsletter continued publishing until it went on a hiatus over the spring of 2002. The Peeper was revived once again by the FHCA Executive in the summer of 2002 when it returned as a two-page newsletter.

Currently, the Peeper is distributed as a monthly double-sided flyer. The Peeper is distributed in paper format to all households with a K0A 1X0 postal code. As well, the e-Peeper is an electronic version of the newsletter distributed in email format to over 100 recipients both in Fitzroy and in areas that do not receive the paper version. Anyone wishing to receive the “e-Peeper” can send an email to thepeeper[at]fitzroyharbour.com to subscribe. Recent editions of the Peeper are also available at www.fitzroyharbour.com.

The Peeper does not take advertisements, but will publish special announcements from local businesses. Individuals, sports teams, church groups, community clubs, and any others interested in informing the community with news or notices of events for publication can drop off a note at the Harbour Store, send an email to thepeeper[at]fitzroyharbour.com call Adam Brown at 623-8867 or contact any member of the Executive.
